Hands on Philanthropy
“NO ONE HAS EVER BECOME POOR FROM GIVING.”
– ANNE FRANK
ABOUT
Paul Pogue & Judy Pogue
In 1979, Paul Pogue and his wife Judy borrowed $1,000 and started a small construction company which today is one of the leading construction companies in Texas.
Paul and Judy have formed Pogue Family Missions Organization to fund mission projects to outreaches all over the world. The goal is to teach people to learn, earn, and return.
Paul uses his skills in construction to design and construct orphanages, churches, and medical buildings throughout Mexico.
In 2010, Paul founded Minuteman Disaster Response, a Charitable Non-Profit organization. This organization was set up to serve a 4-state region and provide support for first responders and victims of disasters.
In addition to their mission work, Judy Pogue is an accomplished public speaker and the author of the book, “Awaken Sleeping Beauty.” Judy partners with Global Advance, Latin Equip and Mundo de Fe in many countries to inspire women and teach the core values of how to build a successful business based upon biblical Christian values. Judy has participated in conferences in Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Germany, Peru, and Brazil.
Philanthropy
When Paul and Judy Pogue traveled on a vacation to Mexico in just after they were married, they were still working to build a construction firm they had started with a $1,000 loan and a dream. The poverty they saw reminded Paul of his early life, in a loving Christian home with a great deal of faith but no running water.
“So when we were on that trip, as I reviewed the people washing their clothes, doing the laundry getting their water, feeding their animals it just brought back a little bit of the way I grew up.”
Paul Pogue
They would return to Mexico many times, not as tourists, but as hands-on philanthropists.
“Anne Frank said that she never knew anyone that got poor by giving. And so I think that’s important to have as a life goal. I’ve been blessed." - Paul Pogue
“We felt like why not us. Let’s do it. If we can bless our family and we can bless other people and we can do something that will outlive us, let’s just do it.” - Judy Pogue
When disaster struck Joplin, Missouri Paul Pogue and some friends loaded trucks with supplies donated by local churches. Paul noticed that there were plenty of supplies but that the first responders were way overburdened.
He wondered “What if we could do something to help the first responders.”
Today with more than 200 highly trained volunteers and a wide variety of specialized equipment Minuteman Disaster Relief provides support for first responders in a four-state area.
Paul remains active in the organization and works side by side with the volunteers.
“One of the first questions a lot of these small cities ask us is “How much is this going to cost.” Well, we tell them, “This doesn’t cost you anything.”
When disaster struck Haiti, Paul Pogue flew to Houston and picked up a doctor and two nurses as well as supplies and flew them to Haiti.
“Angel Flight is a big part of giving back locally, in this country.” Says Pogue.
An experienced pilot with multiple ratings Paul has personally taken the controls to fly patients in need of life-saving transportation.
